MEET THE TEAM

Meet the Designer, Danielle Fleming

Calibro Workspace Office Design and Fitout Ireland Designer Danielle Fleming

Why interior design?

Whilst studying for a degree in Product Design, I worked as an outdoor 3D designer, designing playgrounds, care home gardens and sensory spaces. My final University project involved designing a piece of furniture for an open plan office, and the more I got in to it, combined with my part-time job, I realised that my interest was within the wider space, and how people interact with it, rather than a specific product. Whilst working as a Kitchen and Bathroom designer, I enrolled in an Interior Design course and completed that, which lead me to my first commercial interiors role.

What element of design are you most passionate about?

I like that each day is varied and a challenge, adapting to clients’ styles and briefs.

What keeps you inspired?

I love travelling and exploring new places, even popping for a quick coffee keeps me inspired – looking at the interior details, the packaging and the experience. It’s a blessing and a curse that my creative brain is always switched on.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Oh I’m not sure I have a typical day, I truly mean it when I say that every day is different! A typical week though would most likely include space planning work, visualisations, site visits, client meetings and a couple of supplier visits to introduce new products, which is of course, all powered by coffee and snacks!

Is there a particular designer or design movement that you are particularly interested in?

I love the Art Deco movement, I love that a timeless interior can be transformed with geometric patterns and motifs. Some of my favourite colours are bold jewel tones, and you can create such a rich material palettes with them to create an opulent and decadent interior.

What are your must-visit design events throughout the year?

Clerkenwell Design Week is always a great trip to London and a chance to experience the hustle and bustle, but we’re really fortunate that we host lots of suppliers in the office, so we keep updated throughout the year!

What do you like to do in your downtime? What recharges you?

I love being active, either in the gym or getting some fresh air on a dog walk. I’ve recently started painting a couple of abstract pieces too, but I think it’s something I will keep doing as it was nice to get a bit of calm in a creative brain.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the field?

To create a great network around you as they will help to fulfil your creative vision, whether it’s a quirky flooring or acoustic idea, having the right network to support your ideas and discuss the technicalities will help it go from a sketch in a notebook to a key detail on site. and the site walk-through
